When it comes to the perfect date restaurant, ambiance makes all the difference in the world. While my go-to is usually anywhere with al-fresco seating or a backyard beer garden, I'm a big sucker for Instagram-worthy interiors as well. Enter Wabi LA.
Lauded for dishing up "Sushi with Style," the artistry of Wabi's food pairs perfectly with their breathtaking design. Guests enter into a super-casual, laid back bar area where you can sip stunning cocktails (think lychee and elderflower mixed with prosecco), but my date and I opted instead for some authentic Japanese brews.
The cans themselves were adorable and the Belgian white I tried was smooth, fruity and mild (it's called Wednesday Cat). While they did have a beautiful free form counter to sit around and chat, we grabbed a table in the back dining area instead.
The dining space was absolutely overflowing with greenery and natural light, a wonderful nod to the spot's thoughtful name (Wabi is a Japanese word for things subdued, tranquil and naturally beautiful). Filled with mirrors and simple, spherical lighting, the space also featured a Victorian floral wallpaper that I absolutely fell in love with.
The chef expertly blends Pacific Rim simplicity with Japanese traditional cuisine on this menu. Take one of their signatures for example: wild caught Big Eye Tuna paired with organic raspberries, feta cheese, cilantro aioli, white soy sauce and California fig- I mean yum.
From the food to the decor, this place was truly something special- perfect for a late lunch on a long afternoon.
